The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles." This is the first sentence of the first chapter of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

According to historical materialism, class struggle is how people drive history forward. It is also the red thread of how Marxists understand history. Learn more about how Marxists analyze history in this training.
