“The history of every society to date is the history of the class struggle." So reads the first sentence of the first chapter of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

According to historical materialism, class struggle is how people push history forward. It is at once the thread of how Marxists understand history. Learn more about how Marxists analyze history in this formation.
